Admissions to the Sri Lanka Law College
 
Admission Requirements for the Entrance Examination
 
That he has passed
 
(1)The Intermediate Examination in Arts or Science or Law or Economics or Engineering of the University of London or the Intermediate Examination in Public and Business Administration of the Vidyodaya University of Sri Lanka;
 or
(2)The First Examination in Arts or Science or Law or Economics of any recognized University in The British Commonwealth.
 or
(3)The Higher School Certificate Examination of Sri Lanka;
 or
(4)The General Qualifying Examination in Arts or the General Qualifying Examination in Science of a University of Sri Lanka;
 or
(5)The Degree of Bachelor of Labour Education of University of Colombo;
 or
(6)The Executive Diploma in Business Administration Examination of University of Colombo;
 or
(7)The Degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya;
 or
(8)The National Diploma in Technology of the University of Ceylon Katubadde Campus;
 or
(9)First Division of the Degree Examination of the Bachelor of Science (Hons) of the North Western Frontier Province Agricultural University, Peshawar;
 or
(10)National Certificate in Business Studies conducted by the Polytechnical Institute Galle;
 or
(11)Diploma of the Fox Chapel Area High School, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.;
 or
(12)Diploma of the I.T.C. (International Institute for Aerial Survey and Earth Science) Netherlands;
 or
(13)The Degree of Juris Doctor of Harward Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts;
 or
(14)The First Examination in Commerce of any University in the Commonwealth recognized for the purpose of this rule;
 or
(15)The VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) Examination of the Victorian University of Technology, Australia;
 or
(16) The Higher School Certificate Examination of the Board of Secondary Education, "New South Wales"
 or
(17)Diploma in Management of the Open University of Sri Lanka;
 or
(18)Diploma in Public Management of University of Sri Jayawardenapura;
 or
(19)Diploma in Commerce / Accountancy
 or
(20)National Diploma in Technology
 or
(21)General Arts/Science Qualifying Examinations
 or
(22)Degree in Science / Commerce / Arts etc. (Local or foreign)
 or
(23)Diploma in Law (University of London)
 or
(24)Passes in three subjects at one and the same sitting at the Sri Lanka General Certificate of Education (A/L) Examination under the new scheme. (i.e. August 2000 Examination and thereafter). However, a person who has sat the above examination under the old scheme should have passed in four subjects at one and the same sitting.
 And
Credit passes in English Language AND Sinhala/Tamil Language at the G.C.E.(O/L) or N.C.G.E. Examination.
 
 
Entrance Examination
 
The Brochure and the Application Form may be obtained from the College on payment of the requisite fee during the time specified in the Press advertisement announcing the acceptance of applications for the Entrance Examination.
The Sri Lanka Law College does not offer any courses to prepare students for the Entrance Examination.
 

(1)

All candidates are required to sit an Entrance Examination to be held in August/ September every year.

(2)

The subjects for the Entrance Examination shall be : (a) Language Paper – Sinhala Language or Tamil Language or English Language. and (b) General Knowledge and General Intelligence.

(3)

A candidate may elect to answer the General Knowledge and General Intelligence paper in Sinhala, Tamil or English Language. If he elect to answer the General Knowledge and General Intelligence paper in either the Sinhala Language or Tamil Language, he shall sit for the English Language paper, if he elects to answer the General Knowledge and General Intelligence paper in English he shall sit for either the Sinhala Language or the Tamil Language paper.
 
SYLLABUS FOR THE LANGUAGE PAPER
 
The Syllabus for the Language Paper shall comprise -

(a)

an essay, main objective being to test the candidate’s power of thought, expression and arrangement.

(b)

precise writing and paraphrasing.

(c)

Syntax, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, figurative and idiomatic usage.
 
RESTRICTION ON EMPLOYMENT
 
No person shall be admitted to Sri Lanka Law College to qualify as an Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court and no person shall be permitted to continue as a student if it appears to the Council that by reason of employment, or full time education in any other Educational Institute or for any other reason, such person will not be able to attend as required by Rules.

The Sri Lanka Law College functions under incorporated Council of Legal Education (under the Council of Legal Education Ordinance No. 2 of 1900) to administer legal education to persons who desire to be enrolled in the Bar of Sri Lanka. The Law College is the only institution which offers a complete course of study leading to examinations for those who aspire to get qualified for admission to the profession.

Thus, the Sri Lanka Law College is the only gateway to the legal profession in Sri Lanka. The members of the profession are called attorneys-at-law.

Entry Requirements

  • G.C.E. A/L (New syllabus) 3 'S' Passes
  • G.C.E O/L 'C' pass for English & 'C' pass for Sinhala or Tamil
  • No age limit

Examinations & Deadlines

Sri Lanka Law College Entrance Examination is held annually in the month of September, conducted by Sri Lanka Law College. Applications are called for the entrance examination in the begining of every year through paper advertisements. Applications should be directly forwed to the Sri Lanka law college.
